Itinerary
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Fes, heading south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. You’ll pass through the charming alpine-style town of Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland,” before continuing to the cedar forests of Azrou, where you may spot wild Barbary macaques. The route then leads through Midelt, known as the “Apple City,” and down into the dramatic Ziz Valley, lined with lush palm groves and striking desert landscapes. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes—one of Morocco’s most iconic natural wonders. After a short break, you’ll mount a camel for a magical sunset trek into the golden sands of the Sahara. The day concludes with an unforgettable night in a luxury desert camp under a blanket of stars, complete with traditional Berber music and a hearty dinner .
Wake early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise before riding camels back to Merzouga. After breakfast, you’ll visit the historic market town of Rissani, where the Alaouite dynasty originated, and explore its vibrant souks. Continuing westward, you’ll pass through the palm-lined towns of Erfoud and Tinejdad before reaching the awe-inspiring Todra Gorge—a narrow canyon with towering red cliffs that’s perfect for a short hike. From there, you’ll follow the “Route of 1,001 Kasbahs” through the Dades Valley, known for its rose cultivation and dramatic rock formations like the “Monkey Fingers.” In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Ouarzazate, Morocco’s cinematic capital, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel. This extra overnight in Ouarzazate allows for a more relaxed pace and gives you the chance to explore the town or simply unwind after two days of adventure .
After breakfast in Ouarzazate, you’ll have the option to visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous and well-preserved kasbahs, which has appeared in numerous films and TV series. From there, you’ll begin your ascent into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and Berber villages. The winding road descends through terraced valleys and remote settlements before finally arriving in the vibrant city of Marrakech in the late afternoon. Your 3-day journey from imperial Fes through the Sahara and over the Atlas Mountains concludes in the heart of Marrakech, where the sounds, scents, and energy of the Red City await .
