Itinerary
Your 6-day tour from Casablanca to Merzouga Desert begins with a morning pickup from your hotel. We depart Casablanca and drive north through the scenic Rif Mountains, passing through lush valleys and traditional Berber villages. Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, you’ll learn about this enchanting city—known as “Chaouen” in Amazigh language—where most buildings are painted blue. This tradition is said to repel mosquitoes and symbolize the sky. The city’s narrow streets, vibrant blue-washed walls, and charming cafes offer countless photo opportunities. After exploring the medina and enjoying dinner, you’ll check into your riad or hotel for the night.
After breakfast, we depart Chefchaouen and drive through the Rif Mountains toward Fes. We make a stop at Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring remarkably preserved Roman ruins with intricate mosaics and ancient architecture. Continuing to Meknes, we briefly visit this imperial city before arriving in Fes—the cultural capital of Morocco. Known for its walled medina (Fes el-Bali), medieval Marinid architecture, and vibrant souks, Fes offers a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history. After checking into your accommodation, you’ll have free time in the afternoon to explore the city at your own pace.
After breakfast, we begin our journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop in Ifrane—”Moroccan Switzerland”—known for its alpine architecture and cool climate. Continuing to Azrou Forest, we pause to observe wild Barbary macaques, where you can take photos with these curious primates. We enjoy lunch at a traditional Berber restaurant in Zaida before driving through Midelt (the “Apple Capital”) and the Ziz Valley. Arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon, we mount camels for a magical sunset ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. We arrive at our desert camp for dinner, Berber music around the fire, and an unforgettable night under a sky full of stars.
After breakfast and a final desert sunrise, we depart Merzouga and drive to Rissani—the historic heart of the Tafilalt region. Here, we explore one of Morocco’s largest traditional souks, famous for its dates, spices, and local crafts like *madfouna* (a savory stuffed flatbread). Continuing through the Ziz Valley, we arrive at the Todra Gorges—towering red cliffs carved by a river that create a dramatic canyon landscape. We take time to walk through the gorge before continuing to Boumalne Dades, nestled at the edge of a desert plateau where the Dadès Valley meets the High Atlas. Check into your accommodation with views of the valley for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we depart Boumalne Dades and drive through the fragrant Valley of Roses (Kalaat M’Gouna), known for its annual rose festival. We continue to Ouarzazate—”Hollywood of Africa”—where we can visit the Atlas Film Studios if desired. Next, we explore Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and legendary filming location for movies like *Gladiator*, *The Mummy*, *Alexander*, and *Game of Thrones*. After lunch, we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), with stunning views of terraced valleys and Berber villages. We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where you’ll have free time to explore Jemaa el-Fna Square and its evening activities.
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to either Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) or Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CMN), depending on your flight schedule. This concludes our 6-day journey through Morocco’s diverse landscapes—from the blue streets of Chefchaouen to the golden dunes of the Sahara.
