Your day trip to Essaouira begins with a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Marrakech through the fertile Haouz plains to Chichaoua, where we’ll stop for coffee before continuing to the Atlantic coast. Along the way, you’ll pass through an argan tree forest where you can see goats climbing trees—a unique sight. We’ll visit a local women’s cooperative to learn how argan oil is extracted and how it’s used to make natural cosmetics. Upon arrival in Essaouira, you’ll have time to explore this charming coastal city at your leisure. Discover the fishing port, wander through the medina’s narrow streets lined with art galleries and traditional woodwork workshops, and admire the cedarwood inlay craftsmanship. Visit the city’s historic ramparts, gates, and fortifications including the Sqala of the Kasbah and the Sqala of the Port. The city’s unique climate and geography make it a world-class destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Be sure to try a local specialty like tagine Souiri or fresh fish at a seaside restaurant. In the late afternoon, we’ll return to Marrakech, dropping you at your hotel or a nearby accessible location.
