Itinerary
Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. We head south into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains, making our first stop in Ifrane, often called “Morocco’s Switzerland.” Stroll through its clean, alpine-style streets, admire the famous stone lion statue, and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
Next, we continue to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques. You’ll have time to walk among the ancient trees and observe these playful primates in their natural habitat.
After a traditional lunch in Midelt—Morocco’s “apple capital”—we descend into the dramatic Ziz Valley, known for its vast palm groves and fortified desert villages (ksars). We pass through Erfoud, the “gateway to the Sahara,” famous for its fossil workshops, before arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon.
At the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, you’ll mount camels for a serene ride into the heart of the Sahara. Watch the sun set over the endless sands before reaching your authentic desert camp. Enjoy a hearty Berber dinner under a blanket of stars, followed by live music, drumming, and storytelling around a campfire.
Wake early to witness a magical sunrise over the dunes—a moment you’ll never forget. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll ride camels back to the vehicle and begin the return journey to Fes.
Our first stop is Rissani, a historic market town and the ancestral home of Morocco’s royal Alaouite dynasty. Explore its lively souk (if day permits) and see the ancient mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif.
We then retrace our route through the Ziz Gorges, with photo stops overlooking the valley’s palm oases. After lunch in Midelt, we ascend back into the Middle Atlas, stopping again in Azrou or Ifrane for a short break.
Finally, we return to Fes in the late afternoon, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or riad—concluding your unforgettable 2-day desert escape from Fes.
