We continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you’ll have the chance to spot wild Barbary macaques. After a short break, we drive to Midelt, Morocco’s “apple capital,” nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges. Following lunch in Midelt, we descend into the dramatic Ziz Valley, known for its endless palm groves and fortified ksars. Our route then takes us through Erfoud, the “gateway to the Sahara” and a hub for fossil craftsmanship. Arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon, you’ll mount camels for a magical ride into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast in Ouarzazate, we visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most photographed kasbahs and a backdrop for films like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Explore its labyrinthine alleys and mud-brick towers before continuing your journey. We then ascend the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters), the highest mountain pass in North Africa. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Berber villages, terraced farmland, and snow-capped peaks. Descending into the Marrakech plains, we arrive in the vibrant “Red City” by late afternoon.
