Itinerary

On the first morning of our 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes, we depart early and cross the dramatic landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters above sea level). En route, we stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its striking earthen architecture built from clay and stone. This iconic kasbah has served as a backdrop for numerous international films and series. After exploring the site, we enjoy lunch at a traditional Berber restaurant in Ait Ben Haddou. In the afternoon, we continue through Ouarzazate—pausing near the famous Atlas Studios for photos—and visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah in the town center. We then pass through the lush palm groves of Skoura and the fragrant Rose Valley before arriving in the Dades Valley, where we spend our first night in a local hotel or riad.

After breakfast, we begin the second day of our 4-day desert tour by driving toward the Todra Gorges. Along the way, we enjoy panoramic views of palm-lined valleys and make photo stops amid the scenic landscapes. Upon arrival, you’ll walk through the narrow, sun-drenched canyon of Todra Gorge, surrounded by towering red cliffs. We then continue to Tinjdad for a relaxing lunch before heading to Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and as the gateway to the Sahara. From there, we proceed to Merzouga, where camels and guides await. You’ll ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, pausing to witness a magical desert sunset and capture photos. As night falls, we arrive at a traditional desert camp—offering either standard or luxury tents—where you’ll enjoy a hearty dinner, Berber music, drumming around a fire, and a night under a sky ablaze with stars.

Following a leisurely breakfast, we begin our exploration of the Merzouga region. Our first stop is Khamlia, a village founded by descendants of enslaved people originally from sub-Saharan Africa (historically Sudan and Mali). Here, you’ll meet local families and experience a live Gnawa music performance—a spiritual and rhythmic tradition accompanied by mint tea. Next, we visit Mfis Oasis, a small Berber settlement near copper and coal mines that support the local economy. We then stop in Merdane village to interact with Berber families and learn about their daily life. Afterward, we return to Merzouga for lunch and check into your hotel or riad for the night, with dinner and breakfast included.

On the final day of our 4-day tour, we rise early to enjoy the desert sunrise before breakfast. We then leave Merzouga and stop in Erfoud to visit a fossil and marble workshop, where local artisans craft decorative items from ancient stone. Continuing north, we drive through the Ziz Valley—stopping for panoramic views of its vast palm groves stretching across the arid landscape. We reach Midelt, Morocco’s “apple capital,” where you’ll have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in the cedar forests of Azrou to observe wild Barbary macaques and take photos. We then proceed to Ifrane, often called “Morocco’s Little Switzerland,” famed for its alpine architecture, clean streets (once ranked among the world’s cleanest cities), and cool climate. Here, we stroll through scenic gardens and visit the iconic stone Atlas Lion statue. Finally, we drive to Fes, where we drop you off at your accommodation or at Fes Airport, concluding our 4-day journey from Marrakech through the Sahara Desert to Fes.
